Generous Giver of Life, we confess that we don’t always receive the gifts you offer. We think they come with too steep a price. We aren’t sure we can trust you with our greatest fears and deepest longings. We want to go our own way and depend only on ourselves. We judge harshly those who don’t stand on their own two feet. But you made us, and you know us better than we know ourselves. You did not send Jesus to condemn us to a life of misery, but to show us the way of real joy.
